CPC50210 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

 

Program Description:
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who organise, manage, co-ordinate and maintain all building construction resources to ensure time, cost and quality control in the successful delivery of the building design solution within an organisation.  Individuals would possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical and managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and the work of others with building construction responsibilities.

 

Qualification Rules:
18 units must be selected for this qualification including:

  • 13 core units
  • 5 electives

Elective units are relevant to the work outcomes, local industry requirements and the qualification levels in the building construction industry.

 

An additional four (4) Elective Units of Study have been added to the program to suit the requirements for registration as a Registered Building Practitioner (RBP) with the Building Practitioners Board through the Victorian Building Authority (VBA).

 

The selected Electives together with the Additional Electives will assist the applicant providing evidence in demonstrating advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the following competencies:

  • Construction Technology
  • Building Site Management
  • Project Administration & Supervision
  • Legislation & Construction Law
  • Construction Codes & Standards

However, program participants only need to demonstrate competencies in only 18 Units rather then the 22 Units in order to qualify for the award of Diploma.

Prerequisite Requirements:

  • A requirement is to be a minimum of age 18 and over.
  • Students will be interviewed prior to commencement of course program including a per-enrolment interview. This interview will be used to determine suitability for undertaking the course including assessment of the experience which the student has in the Building and Construction Industry.
  • A requirement is to have at least 3 years of work experience in the Building and Construction Industry.

 

However in order to undertake this course program it recommended that Learners:

  • Have Basic Language Proficiency in English
  • Have Basic Literally Proficiency in English
  • Have Basic Numeracy Skills
  • Have access to a computer hardware with internet access
  • Be able to operate computer programs as email, word processor and spread sheet applications at a basic level

Students will be interviewed prior to commencement of course program.

 

Pathways into the Qualification:
There are no prerequisite pathways into the qualification.  Open to all wishing to develop professional skill sets for employment in the building construction sector.

 

Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory or Certification Considerations:
A “construction induction” CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry or equivalent “white card” is required by WorkSafe Victoria before entering any worksite.

Students will be made aware of this requirement as part of their interview prior to commencement of course program.

 

Registration for licensing is a requirement to practice commercially as a Builder.

 

This program does not provide licensing or registration as a licensed Builder as this is the responsibility with the relevant building licensing authority in each States or Territories of Australia.

 

There is no one ‘national’ license for the building construction sector or any of its functions.

 

Certification responsibilities and systems are administered by state legislation and may differ between States and Territories.

 

Participants for this course program will therefore be advised to consult the relevant occupational licensing authority in their State or Territory to determine the specific licensing requirements.

 

However this course program is structured and designed to suit the requirements for registration as a Registered Building Practitioner (RBP) with the Building Practitioners Board through the Victorian Building Authority (VBA).

 

The selected Electives together with the Additional Electives will assist the applicant providing evidence in demonstrating advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and skills suited for registering as a Registered Building Practitioner (RBP).
