Construction management is a discipline and management system specifically devised to successfully complete & physically deliver developments for project owners.  A service that applies effective management techniques to a project for the purpose of controlling:

The principle objective of the Manage Construction Work course program at CAS-BCM is to equip students on how they could:

  • Develop and manage a selection and pre-qualifying process for contractors and sub contractors
  • Develop scope-of-work documents for tender packages
  • Prepare contractors’ scope of work definitions for contract agreements
  • Establish contracting methods and a contract procurement plan
  • Prepare a project procedure manual and establish a construction and critical path schedule
  • Monitor contractor compliance with contract requirements
  • Manage conformance of work to contract documents during the construction phase
  • Address safety management issues and establish project emergency plans including coordination of police, fire, rescue and other emergency services
  • Establish risks associated with on-site safety, define responsibilities of on-site personal and review contractor safety programs
  • Develop requirements for building occupancy or project start-up

Program Summary

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to manage construction for major projects. It covers the facilitation, implementation and management of the building construction system in a building and construction organisation involved in residential and/or commercial projects.

The program is suited to anyone wishing to start a career in construction or those coming form the building construction industry to further develop their expertise & knowledge.

Program Aims

This unit of competency supports the needs of building professionals, Registered Building Practitioners, senior managers within building and construction firms and other construction industry personnel responsible for the administration & management of construction activities for residential and commercial projects.

This course unit specifies the outcomes required to manage construction work and/or projects with projects in the building and construction industries.

Outcomes

The Construction Management Program with CAS-BCM is well suited to those in the building construction industry and new to the industry who want to develop knowledge, skills and competencies to enable them to undertake job & project roles in administering & managing the construction responsibilities & obligations for building construction projects.

Prerequisites/Entry Requirements

It is recommended that Potential Learners:

  • Have Basic Literally Proficiency in English
  • Have Basic Numeracy Skills
  • Have access to a computer hardware with internet access

Assessment Process

All assessments will be conducted through the on-line learner portal through CAS-BCM’s Learner Management System.

Assessment is provided on-line through learner portal (LMS)

How and when assessments will be conducted

  • Individual Unit Element Activities will form part of the Face-to-Face Sessions and collected electronically on-line through learner portal
  • Project Assignment will be collected after every Independent Study periods; collected electronically on-line through learner portal
  • Work-Based Project Assignments will be due on after the completion of Unit of Competency
  • Skills Session outcomes will be due on after the completion of Unit of Study

Assessment processes and techniques are, as far as is practical, take into account the language, literacy and numeracy capacity of the learner in relation to the competency being assessed.

Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL

Participants can opt to undertake the program through an RPL Program (Recognition of Prior Learning), it is a form of assessment that recognises skills and knowledge gained through formal training conducted by industry or education, work experience or life experience.
